Telence T. D'Arby

Also known as: D'Arby the Player, Terence D'Arby

Telence T. D'Arby is the younger D'Arby brother — DIO's video-game-Stand-user enforcer across Stardust Crusaders' Cairo arc. His Stand Atum reads opponents' minds through yes/no question-and-answer dialogue, and his combat application uses video-game wagers (Pac-Man, F-1 racing) to force opponent give-up. Defeated by Noriaki Kakyoin in one of Stardust Crusaders' most-cited video-game combat sequences.

Story

Stardust Crusaders

Part 3 · 1989

Telence's combat scene against Kakyoin across the Cairo arc's video-game-wager sequence is one of Stardust Crusaders' most-cited late-arc Stand-combat resolutions. Atum reads opponent minds through binary yes/no question-answer dialogue, letting Telence anticipate Kakyoin's tactical decisions. Kakyoin's eventual response is to make tactical decisions through pure-random selection — bypassing Atum's prediction mechanic by removing strategic-thought-process from his combat dialogue.

Atum

Stand

Atum is a Long-Range Stand named after the Egyptian creator-deity Atum. The Stand reads opponents' minds through yes/no question-and-answer dialogue — Telence asks binary questions and Atum extracts the truthful answer from the opponent's involuntary mental response. The mechanic is the franchise's first depicted mind-reading-via-binary-dialogue Stand combat ability.
