Narciso Anasui
Also known as: Anasui
Narciso Anasui is a Green Dolphin Street Prison inmate who proposes marriage to Jolyne Cujoh during Stone Ocean's middle act — one of three on-page marriage proposals across the original-eight-Part saga. His Stand Diver Down can submerge into any solid object, letting Anasui rearrange the object's internal mechanics or surface inversions while remaining flush with the surface. Originally drawn as female by Araki, the character was retconned male partway through Stone Ocean's serialisation — a rare on-page identity revision in the franchise's history.
Story
Stone Ocean
Part 6 · 2011Anasui's pre-Stone-Ocean biography is the most extensive of any prison-inmate Stand User. He committed murder against his fiancée during a domestic dispute, was institutionalised at fifteen, transferred to Green Dolphin Street Prison in his early twenties, and developed Diver Down through prolonged exposure to DIO's bone fragment that Pucci had circulated through the prison population.
His arc-spanning role across Stone Ocean is unusual — Anasui initially attempts to assist Jolyne's investigation as a means of personal gain (the manga depicts his motives across multiple chapters as opportunistic), then commits to the crew after proposing marriage to Jolyne in a confessional sequence that the manga depicts with both sincerity and absurdity. The proposal is the franchise's third on-page marriage proposal across the original eight Parts (the others being Tonio's Trattoria Trussardi in Diamond Is Unbreakable and Bucciarati's parental engagement in Vento Aureo).
Anasui survives most of Stone Ocean's middle and back acts before being killed in the Cape Canaveral final confrontation. His death is one of Pucci's last actions before the Made in Heaven universe-reset, and the mechanic — Anasui dying in the moments before the universe ends — gives Stone Ocean a structural argument about the totalising effect of the reset.
Powers & Abilities
Diver Down
StandDiver Down is a humanoid Close-Range Stand that submerges into any solid object. Anasui can dive into walls, vehicles, human bodies, or environmental obstacles, letting Diver Down rearrange the object's internal mechanics from the inside. The Stand operates as a surface-flush extension while submerged — there is no visible Stand-protrusion from the affected object, making Diver Down one of the franchise's most-concealable combat applications.
Mechanically Diver Down is one of the franchise's most-flexible internal-rearrangement Stand abilities. Anasui can dive into a wall and rearrange its load-bearing mechanics to collapse it on demand, dive into a human body and rearrange organs into structural collapse, or dive into a vehicle and redirect its engine output to attack the operator. The Stand has been read as the structural precursor to Sticky Fingers's spatial-disruption mechanic and to Soft & Wet's plunder ability — all three Stands operate via object-internal manipulation rather than direct external damage.

Trivia
- Anasui's proposal to Jolyne mid-Stone-Ocean is one of three on-page marriage proposals across the original-eight-Part saga. The proposal is depicted with both sincerity and absurdity — the manga refuses to treat it as either pure comedy or pure romance, and Jolyne's ambiguous response anchors the scene's tonal complexity.
- Anasui was originally drawn as female by Araki and retconned male partway through Stone Ocean's serialisation. The character's pre-retcon early-chapter appearances depict longer hair and softer facial features; post-retcon appearances introduce a more angular jawline and shorter hair. The retcon has been read as one of the franchise's only depicted on-page identity revisions and a structural anomaly across the saga.
- His Stand Diver Down is named after the 1982 Van Halen album. The Stand-naming continues Stone Ocean's rock-music-and-jazz-fusion cluster alongside Stone Free (Hendrix), Foo Fighters (the band), Weather Report (jazz fusion), Kiss (rock), and Made in Heaven (Queen).
