Karera Sakunami

JoJolion's central question is *who is Josuke?* — and Karera is the first person in the Part to answer any piece of it from lived memory. She recognizes the face instantly and names it: Josefumi Kujo. She isn't guessing; she spent her school years orbiting the boy at T Academy. Her chapters convert Josuke's identity from metaphysical puzzle to missing-persons case, and the flashbacks tied to her (Ch. 51-53) place Kira, Josefumi, Damo, and Yotsuyu together at Morioh harbor on the dated night the two boys became one body.

Her exit line is the arc's thesis stated by a bystander: she tells Josuke she can *feel* that an equivalent exchange took place in him. The series' most important secret is casually diagnosed by a woman fishing banknotes out of an ATM with hair — JoJolion's habit of hiding load-bearing revelations inside grubby, small-stakes episodes at its purest.

The Love Love Deluxe chapters double as a portrait of underclass Morioh. Karera is about twenty, unemployed, estranged from her family, and living hand-to-mouth through micro-cons: hair regrowth for balding men at cash rates, dine-and-dash schemes, a stolen card milked through a machine's screen. Araki plays her scams for comedy, but the engine underneath is fear — she has been in hiding for six months from killers she cannot name to any authority.

That context reframes the grifting. Every con is a woman staying liquid and mobile because stopping means being found. When she abandons Josuke to the A. Phex Brothers mid-fight, it is the survival reflex of half a year underground; when she comes back anyway, it is the first non-transactional thing the Part shows her doing. Her one act of violence — igniting a killer with his own lighter — is also her one act of loyalty.

Karera's flashback material is JoJolion's Rosetta stone. On the night the Part's backstory pivots — Kira and Josefumi's operation against the Rock Humans at Morioh harbor — Kira planted Sheer Heart Attack in Karera's hair without her knowledge, using the oblivious girl as a mobile bomb to divert Tamaki Damo and Yotsuyu. She walked away physically unharmed and existentially marked: the Rock Humans' organization spent the next six months hunting the loose end.

The detail is quietly brutal about Kira's character — Part 8's Kira is a *protective* figure in the Josefumi story, yet his tradecraft casually spends a bystander as ordnance. Karera is the cost of the harbor plan that nobody mourns, and her half-year of hiding is the Part's longest-running consequence carried entirely by a side character.

JoJolion systematically re-casts Part 4's Morioh archetypes into its alternate universe, and Karera is the Yukako Yamagishi slot run through a fun-house mirror: the hair Stand, the romantic fixation, even the styling. But where Yukako's obsession was operatic — kidnapping, bleach, cliff-side melodrama — Karera's is anticlimactic by design: she stalked a boy she never once spoke to, and the closest she gets to him is his face on someone else's body.

The inversion extends to the power itself. Yukako's Love Deluxe weaponized *her own* hair — passion projected outward. Karera's Love Love Deluxe only manipulates *other people's* hair — a parasite's version of the same gift, befitting a woman who lives entirely off other people's resources. It is one of Araki's neatest examples of a reboot restating a character as economic critique.
