Shigekiyo Yangu

Also known as: Shigechi

Shigechi — full name Shigekiyo Yangu — is the franchise's first depicted child Stand User casualty and the structural reveal mechanism for Yoshikage Kira's identity. A thirteen-year-old Morioh elementary-school student with the swarm-Stand Harvest, Shigechi works part-time at Trattoria Trussardi and is killed by Kira when he discovers a hand-shaped paper bag fragment among Kira's delivery items. The discovery is the structural trigger for the entire late-arc Kira investigation across Diamond Is Unbreakable's back half.
The Saga

Story

Diamond Is Unbreakable

Part 4 · 1999

Shigechi is introduced as a Morioh elementary-school student with a Stand-Arrow-awakened Stand. His pre-arc biography is depicted across one chapter — he is a relatively isolated child who has used his Stand Harvest's swarm-coordination ability to gather money that he uses for personal purposes (food, small luxuries), an arc-opening sequence the manga depicts with both childlike innocence and tactical efficiency.

His connection to the late-arc Kira investigation is the structural reveal of Part 4. Shigechi is the part-time delivery boy who handles Kira's lunch order at the Trattoria Trussardi delivery system. The order contains a fragment of a woman's-hand paper bag — the residue of one of Kira's serial-killer trophies — and Shigechi recognises the hand-shaped paper before Kira can dispose of it cleanly. Kira's response is to murder Shigechi with Killer Queen's first-bomb touch-detonation, in one of Diamond Is Unbreakable's most-cited tragic-child deaths.

Harvest

Stand

Harvest is a Long-Range swarm Stand that takes the form of approximately five hundred tiny humanoid Stand-figures, each capable of independent action under Shigechi's coordination. The swarm can scour wide areas for small objects (lost coins, dropped jewelry, fragments of identifiable material), perform tasks in parallel across distance, and combine into larger formations for combat applications.

The Stand has been read as the franchise's first depicted micro-swarm Stand — anticipating Sex Pistols's six-bullet swarm in Vento Aureo (where Mista's Stand is composed of six anthropomorphic bullets) and various multi-target Stands across later Parts. Combat applications are limited — individual Harvest units are small enough to be casually destroyed — but the swarm's reconnaissance capability lets Shigechi find lost objects that no conventional search could recover.

Trivia

  • Shigechi is the franchise's first depicted child Stand-User main-cast casualty — a thirteen-year-old Morioh elementary-school student murdered by the principal antagonist of Diamond Is Unbreakable. The death is one of the most-cited tragic sequences in the entire Part and the structural reveal mechanism for Kira's identity.
  • His Stand Harvest is the franchise's first depicted micro-swarm Stand — approximately five hundred tiny humanoid Stand-figures operating in parallel coordination. The mechanic is the structural precursor to Sex Pistols's six-bullet swarm in Vento Aureo and various multi-target Stands across later Parts.
  • Shigechi's discovery of the hand-shaped paper bag fragment among Kira's Trattoria Trussardi delivery items is the structural trigger for the entire late-arc Kira investigation. Without Shigechi's discovery, the team has no narrative mechanism to identify Kira's serial-killer activity before Kira's identity-assumption-as-Kosaku-Kawajiri stabilises.
  • His Japanese voice actor in the 2016 anime is Sayaka Senbongi — best known outside JoJo for playing Shuna in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. The casting was a deliberate choice for the child-coded vocal register the character requires.
