Lisa Lisa
Also known as: Elizabeth Joestar, Elizabeth
Lisa Lisa is the first major female Hamon master in the franchise and Joseph Joestar's biological mother. Born Elizabeth Joestar to a family destroyed during Dio's SS Burnoria attack, she is rescued as an infant by Erina Joestar and raised in Erina's New York household. She later trains in Hamon under Italian master Straizo and becomes the head of the clandestine Hamon school on Air Supplena Island — where she trains Joseph and Caesar Zeppeli for the 1939 Pillar Men confrontation.
Story
Air Supplena Island
Part 2 · 1889–1939Born Elizabeth Joestar during Dio's attack on the SS Burnoria in 1889, Lisa Lisa is rescued from the sinking ship by Erina Joestar and raised in Erina's New York household alongside George Joestar II. Her biological connection to the Joestars is non-existent (her birth parents died on the Burnoria), but Erina's adoption makes her the only non-biological Joestar of the original eight-Part continuity.
Lisa Lisa marries a Hamon-master named George Joestar II in the late 1910s — making her formally Erina's daughter-in-law as well as adopted granddaughter. The marriage produces Joseph Joestar in 1920. George II dies shortly after Joseph's birth, killed by the alt-Hamon-school Straizo in a betrayal that Lisa Lisa never fully recovers from emotionally.
By the late 1930s Lisa Lisa has established a clandestine Hamon school on Air Supplena Island off the Italian coast — the franchise's first depicted formal Hamon training institution. The school trains Caesar Zeppeli and Loggins and Messina as senior students; when Joseph arrives in 1938 to be trained against the Pillar Men, Lisa Lisa is the senior instructor, with her status as Joseph's biological mother concealed from him throughout the training.
Powers & Abilities
Sendō Ripple Mastery
HamonLisa Lisa is the franchise's first depicted female Hamon grandmaster and one of only three Hamon masters in the Battle Tendency era (alongside Messina and Loggins). Her signature combat application is Snake Muffler Ripple — a Ripple-charged scarf wielded as a constricting weapon. The technique lets her deliver Ripple damage at extended melee range without breaking eye contact with the target, making her one of the franchise's most-defensive Hamon combat profiles.
She is also the franchise's most-emphasised example of breath-control discipline. The manga depicts Lisa Lisa's training routines across multiple chapters — submerged breathing exercises, oil-soaked-sand running drills, suspended-pillar combat sequences — and the training methodology is the structural template that subsequent JoJo Parts apply to Stand-user development.

Trivia
- Lisa Lisa is the franchise's first major female Hamon master and one of the few Hamon practitioners depicted as ranking above the protagonist of the Part. Her senior status at the Air Supplena Island school makes her structurally superior to both Joseph and Caesar during the Battle Tendency training arc.
- Her age across Battle Tendency is fifty despite the manga's depicted youthful appearance — a detail explained by sustained Hamon use producing age-retardation in the body. The mechanic is one of the franchise's only depicted Hamon health benefits beyond direct combat application, and has been used by long-form critics as evidence that Hamon is closer to a metaphysical-spiritual practice than to a martial art.
- Lisa Lisa's biological connection to Joseph is deliberately concealed across most of Battle Tendency. The reveal — that Lisa Lisa is Joseph's biological mother — arrives in the arc's final chapters and recontextualises the entire training-arc dynamic. The structural choice has been read as one of Araki's most-effective long-form character reveals across the original eight Parts.
